Jedi Knight 2, Close Reading
In this paper, I do a close reading of the game Jedi Knight 2:Jedi Outcast. I give an overview of the game where I discuss it as a transmedia entity and how it appeals to fans of the Star Wars franchise. I chose to analyze this particular level because it has puzzle solving components in addition to the hack-and-slash saber combat and first-person shooter weapons combat found throughout the game. I discuss pattern recognition, player feedback, visual and auditory effects that enhance the player's tension and make it more thrilling, and the lack of cohesion between the narrative and the play itself. In this demo video, I walk through the level itself, highlighting features I spoke about in my paper.
